The Antigua legends Tour
Day by Day Outline
Blind Pilots Antigua Legends tour is an exciting combination of culture with adventure, gourmet and grit, relax and rush, in the land of the Eternal Spring. It is an experience for both the nonvisual and sighted, with activities that play with all the senses. Our small groups of 6 to 10 adventurers maintain the intimate feel and attention to detail for you and your travel mates. And while almost all-inclusive, our Guatemala itinerary gives you plenty of time to explore Antigua on your own terms.
Working with the most trusted and safest partners, Antigua Legends is designed by and for the blind, but also for the sighted family members, partners, friends, and anyone that wants to enjoy the unique wonders of this beautiful country. Bienvenidos!

Day 1 – Bienvenidos a Guatemala!
Welcome to Guatemala! Once you land at Guatemala City (GUA) airport, your private driver meets you for the transfer to the UNESCO World Heritage Spanish colonial town of Antigua Guatemala.
We invite you to a welcome dinner that evening to celebrate your successful journey to Guatemala.
Included:
Day 2 – Popol Vuh
Essential to any trip to Guatemala is learning about one of the world’s greatest civilizations, the ancient Maya. Today, we move from the most important Mayan creation story to making traditional corn tortillas, a perfect addition to your Guatemalan feast.
Guide dogs welcome.
Included:

Day 3 – Sin Ventura
Following our introduction to Mayan lore, we arrive at the story of Sin Ventura, involving the first Spanish conquistadores and coffee. Coffee has since become one of Guatemala’s most important exports and you will spend time with a local coffee family, from the fields to the final cup. Later, enjoy a delicious, multisensory experience at one of Antigua’s most unique restaurants.
Guide dogs welcome.
Included:
Day 4 – Antigua Urban Legends
Today we turn to the spicy urban legends that are shared through generations, and Antigua has plenty of mystery and history to accommodate many, many legends. A day that bounces from Antigua’s storied jade factory to the best street food, this fun day fills your imagination as much as your bellies.
Guide dogs welcome.
Included:

Day 5 – Option 1 – Acatenango
This is the big hike, up the 13,402 foot (3,976 meters) Acatenango volcano. The ascent generally takes five to six hours, but all hikers are encouraged to move at their own pace. This adventure includes meals, bilingual guides specially trained to work with blind climbers, porters to carry backpacks, hiking poles, and a comfortable, fully equipped campground near the crater and facing the active Fuego volcano. Witnessing by sound and sight the raw power of a live eruption is truly awesome. Don’t worry, though, Fuego is far enough away that you’ll be fine zipped up in your sleeping bag.
***Note that sturdy shoes or hiking boots are essential for his hike. If you do not own these, there are reputable places in Antigua where they can be rented.
Guide dogs not allowed. Please see the FAQs.

Day 5 – Option 2 – Cacao and Camionetas
Today we catch a chicken bus from Antigua to the town of San Juan del Obispo. Our first stop in San Juan will be a chocolate workshop, followed by a visit to the living museum of Luis de Leon, an academic and author who was disappeared during Guatemala’s 30 year civil conflict. A moving day that touches all the senses.
Guide dogs welcome.

If you spent Day 5 doing Cacao and Camionetas, in keeping with volcanic activities, today will take you to Pacaya. Pacaya offers an alternative for those looking for a tamer experience. Either walking or by horseback, you’ll enjoy a picnic prepared in geothermic steam vents in a vast lava field.
After a good hike on Pacaya or after your night on Acatengango, you are transported to a special night of luxury featuring an expertly prepared tasting menu, wine pairings and cabins with jacuzzis. A well-deserved rest after your volcanic efforts.
