In Spanish, “no vidente” means “nonvisual,” and this incorporates anyone at any stage of visual impairment. In English, there is no such catch-all word so, at Blind Pilots, we use “blind” as our “no vidente.” Our itineraries are designed for anyone at any stage of sight loss. Whether completely blind, have recently started noticing difficulties, or anywhere in between, our team adapts to your needs to keep things safe, flexible, and fun.

Thoughtfully Planned and Memorable
I live with a condition that affects both my vision and hearing, making my white cane and hearing aids essential tools, especially when traveling. As someone who is deafblind and passionate about travel, this was one of the most thoughtfully planned weeks I have ever experienced. Blind Pilots provided a dedicated guide for each blind participant, and every activity was designed as a multi-sensory experience. From making fresh corn tortillas and harvesting coffee bean to cup, to a tactile jade tour, a legends walking tour, hiking a volcano, and participating in a sacred Mayan ceremony led by a shaman, every day brought something new to discover. The connections made and friendships formed along the way with this wonderful group of fellow travelers were just as meaningful. Guatemala has truly captured my heart, and I am deeply grateful to Scott Garrison for putting together such a memorable and inclusive week for our group of sighted and blind travelers alike.
A Most Rewarding Trip
As the sighted partner of a blind/low vision participant, I was thoroughly impressed by the experience at Blind Pilots. Every experience was chock-full of thoughtful considerations, tactile elements, and visual descriptions that my partner so often longs for. Scott Garrison and the team take everything to the ultimate level. They are exemplars of hospitality and consideration. Watching professional guides go above and beyond every day to bring my partner joy was truly uplifting. From the cultural immersion in Mayan history, to the warmth of the Guatemalan people, to the awe-inspiring experience of climbing Acatenango, I could not have asked for a more rewarding trip.
No Detail Was Overlooked
I first met Scott at a blind travel conference in Austin, Texas. He shared his idea for this trip to Antigua that was filled with adventure and specifically created with the blind in mind. As I listened to Scott’s vision, I knew immediately that it was something I had to do with my children who are both congenitally blind. Six short months later, me and the kids found ourselves in Antigua, Guatemala.
Every single detail of the trip had been thoughtfully curated and planned prior to our arrival – from pick up at the airport to hotel accommodations with rooms that Scott had personally rearranged to make more comfortable for the blind traveler, to activities and outings – no detail was overlooked. In addition to our fellow travelers, Scott and his chosen guides opened up their hearts and were beyond kind, vibrant and knowledgeable. We forged friendships I will not soon forget.
The best part of the trip for me aside from literally all of it, was the fact that there was a sighted guide for each blind traveler for every part of the experience. And as a mom to two blind kids, it was a joy to watch my adult children being guided and taught while I was just able to stand back and enjoy.
Scott, I thank you from the depths of my heart for such an incredible experience. And to those of you who have yet to go on this adventure, you will never regret this experience.

I have only great things to say about the work of Scott Garrison and all he does to support learning and growth for those who he works with. Scott meticulously arranged an international travel experience for a small of our middle school students. Everything was handled professionally and with utmost care. Scott’s knowledge of the people and organizations we partnered with were woven together to create an incredible itinerary that offered a variety of ways to learn about the culture and traditions of Guatemala.
