13-Day High Atlas, Agafay and Atlantic Adventure & Cultural Journey

June 3-15, 2027

Blind or sighted, it doesn’t matter. Everyone is welcome and everyone is equal in this adventure.

Day by Day Outline

Experience Morocco through sound, scent, texture, culture, and authentic human connection on this carefully designed 13-day adapted journey. This itinerary combines Morocco’s vibrant cities, peaceful mountain landscapes, welcoming Berber villages, and the Atlantic coast while ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and immersive experience.

The adventure begins in the historic city of Marrakech before travelling to the peaceful Agafay Desert for an unforgettable overnight stay beneath the stars. From there, the journey continues into the High Atlas Mountains where several days of guided trekking introduce travellers to traditional Berber life, spectacular valleys, mountain streams, waterfalls, and authentic village hospitality.

Every stage of the trek is accompanied by experienced mountain guides and a dedicated support team, allowing guests to experience the mountains with confidence. Following the trek, the itinerary transitions to the beautiful coastal town of Essaouira, where you can enjoy its relaxed atmosphere, accessible medina, horse riding along the Atlantic Ocean, and a traditional Moroccan cooking experience before returning to Marrakech for departure.

Throughout the journey, accommodations have been carefully selected to provide comfort while offering authentic Moroccan hospitality, from charming riads and mountain guesthouses to comfortable trekking camps and a luxury desert camp.

This Isn’t a Sightseeing Tour. It’s a Multisensory Immersion.

Morocco doesn’t need to be seen to be experienced. It needs to be heard, tasted, touched, and felt.

Sensory souks that weave together the sounds of craftsmen at work, the scent of spices and orange blossom, and the tastes of Marrakech’s food markets. Tailored for blind travelers but not a “blind trip.”

Hands-on, tactile experiences such as a Moroccan cooking class from market to table, horseback riding along the Atlantic coast, and mountain trails introducing you to Berber village life. Every stage is accompanied by experienced guides and a dedicated support team.

Adventures that meet you where you are: trek the High Atlas with mules carrying the load, or trade the trail for a gentle horseback ride and a cooking class on the coast. Every day has choices, and every choice is fully supported by expert guides trained in accessibility.

Morocco FAQs

You fly into Marrakech, one of Morocco’s major cities. If no direct flights are available from your home airport, it is strongly recommended to stop over in Spain, France, or other European cities. European airports tend to have more experience with disabled travelers and the transition between flights is going to be smoother. Also, English is not a widely spoken language in Morocco and asking questions in a Moroccan airport can be challenging unless you speak French or Arabic.

Arabic, Amazir (Berber) and French are the languages of Morocco. English is not a common language and many locals do not speak English. However, your guides in all Blind Pilots activities have a good level of English abilities and they can help you out with translations.

It is a tenet of Islam to help others in difficult situations. This puts a Mesliom in Allah’’s good graces. Therefore, Moroccans feel it is their honor to do things for the blind. As an independent blind traveler, it can be challenging to do things for oneself, as the Moroccans mostly want to do things for you. It is important to be your own advocate, while also remaining culturally sensitive. Remember that the help, while it may feel too much, is coming from a pure and good place.

Yes, vegetarians eat well in Morocco. There are many fruits and vegetables in every meal. The national dish, tagine, can easily be adapted for vegetarians.

The highest altitude is about 7,350 feet or 2,250 meters.

Our itineraries are for blind and sighted adventure travelers. There is solid physical challenge in either trip. Whether hiking through the mountains or trekking in the Sahara, each blind traveler will have their own local, bilingual sighted guide. This allows the sighted travel partner to immerse themselves in the experience. You need to be in decent condition to take on the challenges, but you are well-supported the whole way.

In Marrakech, riyad rooms can be either single or double occupancy. This does not change the trip price. The desert tents are based on double occupancy. If you would like a tent to yourself, this involves an extra charge. The mountain guesthouses are different setups and it depends on the number of people in the guesthouse. There may be single rooms or triple rooms. We can advise once the bookings are made. Note that we do our best to ensure your comfort in all accommodations and we are happy to discuss details with you.

Travelers with US, Canadian, or European passports do not need to get visas ahead of time: they are free and immediate upon arrival.

Attitude is more important than age. If you are motivated and feel ready to join us on either itinerary, we would love to see you in Morocco!

No. Blind Pilots trips are set up for blind, low vision, and sighted adventure travelers. We want everyone to challenge and enjoy themselves equally and together.

It is best to not bring your guide dog to Morocco unless your dog has been trained for multi-day hikes. Dogs, in general, are not common pets in Morocco and service dogs are nearly unheard of. Therefore, we wouldn’t be able to recommend a boarding option for your guide dog while you are on your trek. It is best to bring your cane to Morocco and reunite with your dog at home when you rWe will send you packing lists appropriate for each itinerary well ahead of your departure so you can be sure to have everything you need. We will send you packing lists appropriate for each itinerary well ahead of your departure so you can be sure to have everything you need. You can also contact us at any time during your planning with questions.

Our trips are organized so that a sighted guide is available for all Blind Pilots activities. It is your choice whether you choose to walk with a sighted guide or to use only your cane. There is no obligation. The only time this is different are in the High Atlas and the Sahara, where each blind hiker/trekker is paired with a sighted guide for safety.

Yes, and especially with Blind Pilots. We train our guidess to confidently work with blind travelers and to help with cultural questions. It is true that Morocco is a male-dominated culture. However, there are many international influences and the vast majority of Moroccans respect the differences. Many Moroccan women wear the traditional jellaba, which covers from head to toe, but you will also see women in jeans and urban wear. Many wear a hijab to cover their heads and shoulders but this is also a personal preference. Morocco welcomes tourists from around the world all the time and you can expect to find lots of female travelers.

We have a meximum of 10 travelers per group, often a mix between blind, low vision, and sighted people. This keeps it personal and interactive.
